Gulf Oil Corporation Ltd. celebrated its silver jubilee of sponsoring The Gulf Monsoon Scooter Rally 2014 on 6th July’14 in Mumbai. The event is one of a kind that allows riders across country, young and / or professional, to participate, provided they have a valid scooter and license to race.
This year’s rally saw 36 racers participate; out of which 5 were first timers for the Monsoon Rally. All eyes were set on seasoned campaigners like Muzaffar Ali and Rustom Patel, winner of last year’s rally and winner of Mumbai region respectively. The Rally was divided in 2 stages, Tarmac and Mud. From the start point at Parel, racers made their way to Navi Mumbai region, where a special track had been chalked amongst the hilly terrain, which comprised of mud, gravel, stone, peaks and sudden drops. Racers had to complete 3 laps of the circuit that was made through the hills.
The track promised lot of fun and sideways riding. But unlike cricket, everyone wished that the rain Gods would add to the fun, but that was not the case and splashing was at a minimal. Though a drier track provided the racers with the opportunity to get the maximum number of horses running and clock the lowest times ever.
Women empowerment was also to be seen at its best, out of 36 racers 2 were of the fairer sex. On the first lap itself, Nidhi Shukla, one of our lady racers, had a terrifying skid, but that did not stop her from getting up on her scooter again and going on to win the award for the ‘Best Lady Driver’ participating in the Two Wheeler Rally .
Year after year Gulf Oil Corporation Ltd. presents an opportunity for scooter riders to test their mettle against the best in the business. There have been speculations of increasing the number of entrants next year onwards. So all the motor heads out there, get your machines ready for the next year and we shall keep you posted. Wow , it’s amazing to see the rally pictures . What are the eligibility requirements to participate in it ? Is there any special permission or membership to participate ? I ride my Honda Dio , can I take it to next year’s rally ? Will it be in July every year ? I want to know more about it ? So the scooter require modifications ? Please enlighten me
