Future Tata passenger cars will not be registered as Taxi

They say the first impression is the last, but that can be changed over the times. Just that it takes drastic efforts and an all round sea-change that reflects in the new found attitude. Something similar has been happening at Tata Motors, who have announced that none of their future passenger vehicles will be sold to Fleet owners and they’d rather concentrate on selling their cars to individuals. The Tata Indigo, Vista and Indica sold in good numbers. However, around 30-35 per cent of them were registered as taxis, which was instrumental in registering the image of their passenger cars as cabs in the eyes of a potential buyer.

Tata Motors has also revealed that they will launch two new cars every year for the next five years and their bullish strategy reflects in the two recent launches, that being of the Zest sedan, which has been quite successful in the market and their recent hatchback launch, the Bolt. Tata has claimed that within three weeks, the Bolt has managed to attract 50,000 inquiries, 10,000 test drive requests and 1500 bookings. Aiming to be among the top three car brands in the country, Tata also has plans to increase the number of dealerships by three times from the current 460.

  1. Fully agree. Taxi segment still have a business and if they look at Tata for a product then that ia okay. Lets differentiate the product portfolio so that personal vehicle customers get reapected treatment in the service and showrooms.

  2. Good news for buyers for sure. I hope they should continue producing Indicas and Indigos, just for the TAXI segment. Why to lose that market share. New products will take care of the private buyers. Trick is ‘Just make them look different.’

Why has Tata Motors used Storme Ladakh Edition and Sumo Extreme Edition as showcase models. IMO, these two products can give competition sleepless nights. They can do better than the current selling Storme and Sumo.
