In an increasingly mundane 150cc segment, where we haven’t really seen anything exciting since the advent of the Yamaha R15, the Suzuki Gixxer felt like breath of fresh air. Sure the power and technology on offer was no different from the rest of the contenders, but the sheer dynamism of the 155cc naked’s design grabbed instant attention. The muscular tank, the angular panels and the balanced proportions underlined Suzuki’s design prowess.

The Gixxer has created some much needed buzz for Suzuki two wheelers in India. The Japanese company’s Let’s scooter is a fantastic product, looks smashing and drives well too. Along with the Let’s they also have the Access, Swish and a not so well known Hayate motorcycle in their armoury. So the line-up isn’t as thin as one would assume. What Suzuki needs now is to build on the positive vibe created by the Gixxer, follow it up with some more great products in popular categories and spend some money in marketing them. A faired Gixxer 155, for example would be a great follow-up product. And a faired version of the Gixxer is exactly what the product and marketing guys at Suzuki are working on, as we write this. A highly detailed rendering of the motorcycle has been created by the good blokes at Motoblast.org.

To be christened the GSX-R 150, the fuel tank, rear panels, exhaust, and wheels of the rendered machine are shared with the naked version. Quite naturally, the mechanicals, the engine and transmission will also be similar. The peak power and torque output of the engine are expected to be rated at 14.8 PS and 14 Nm respectively with a 5-speed transmission, same as the naked Gixxer.

The front fairing, especially the headlamp of the GSX-R 150 has a keen resemblance with the bigger liter class GSX-R 1000, which is great. Going by the renderings, the fully faired Gixxer 155 should look pretty neat in the flesh, and should be able to create a niche for itself.  Currently the naked Gixxer costs around 75k ex-showroom in India. We expect the faired version to cost about Rs 10K more, and carry an ex-showroom price tag of around Rs 85k.

Expect the new motorcycle to hit the Indian roads by Mid-2015. Stay tuned for more updates.
