Does the new Swift Sports equipped with 1.4 K series motor makes sense for Indian market?

Suzuki has introduced a new version of the Swift Sport in the New Zealand market. Dishing out 94 HP of peak power and 130Nm of peak torque, the new Swift Sport should be quite a hoot to drive. The new Swift Sport is also lighter than its predecessor for a better power to weight ratio. This has primarily been achieved by removing the spare wheel and replacing it with an inflator kit. No great feat then.  The new Swift Sport also features Electronic Stability Control and an enhanced suspension for better handling and control. The hot hatch version of the Swift gets visual differentiators to make sure it isn’t taken lightly by willing street racers. Key differentiators include dual exhausts, a sporty roof spoiler, side skirts, rear bumper under-cladding, 205 cross section tires on 17 inch alloys, wing mirror indicators, an aggressive looking front grille, bigger bumper and fog lamps housings with fins.

On the inside, the Swift Sport gets a bespoke instrument cluster, alloy pedals, sporty front seats in leather stitched red. The steering wheel is tilt and reach adjustable. Other features include a push button start with proximity key, HID Xenon headlamps, cruise control, Bluetooth connectivity, climate control, six-speaker audio system with USB in and a useful trip computer.

So does that sort of an arrangement work for the Indian market? We’d say no. That sort of a package, for even a sub 7 lakh rupee price won’t make much sense for our conservative market which equates bigger to better. What do you think? Do let us know.

    Yatharth – I hear you my friend! But sub-7 lakh? And like Anant mentioned, the palio & the polo don't compare to the perception that we have about Swift. The current avatar of swift itself is hoot to drive. I would rub my hands in glee and assume many more would, for that sub 7 lakh torpedo. 🙂
    Take away that price tag and am all with you. Am actually already with you since I know that price tag is a pipe dream even after knowing how MSIL prices their products. 😛

  3. Anant Bhatia Of course there is a difference. What I am saying is that to us auto enthusiasts, these cars makes a lot of sense. To a majority, these cars are stupid. Polo, palio, swift, all are different. I would also like to include Laura vRS and Fiesta S. All these are driver focused versions of normal cars on sale. But unluckily, they never did well.
