BYD Unveils Electric Hatchback with a stunning 426km Range!

BYD has recently entered Indian shores with the launch of E6 in India. Currently, the carmaker is selling 2 electric vehicles namely the E6 and Atto3 in the market. However, BYD boasts a variety of models in their global portfolio and will add a new electric hatchback named Dolphin.

About BYD Dolphin

BYD Dolphin is a C-segment electric hatchback that will be launched in European markets later this year. The hatchback boasts a distinctive and bold exterior profile with a clean design. Upfront, it gets LED headlights, a black grille with the BYD emblem, new bumpers, and character lines on the hood.

On the side, it gets black treatment on ORVMs, C-Pillar, and wheel arches. The hatchback also gets body-coloured door handles, charging port, and stylish alloy wheels. At the rear, the new Dolphin gets LED taillights with a light bar, a shark fin antenna, a spoiler with high mounted stop lamp, and bumpers with reflectors.

The new BYD Dolphin will get a dual-tone brown and black interior which looks airy and spacious. The dashboard layout of the hatchback might be like the Atto3 with a large infotainment display and instrument cluster. The console comprises round AC vents, silver elements surrounding the AC vents, a multifunctional steering wheel, and a few buttons.

In terms of features, the BYD Dolphin will get the advanced ADAS safety package. This includes Forward Collision Warning, Autonomous Emergency Braking, Rear Collision Warning, Rear Cross Traffic Alert and Rear Cross Traffic Brake, Lane Departure Prevention, and Emergency Lane Keeping Assist. Furthermore, the car will get adaptive cruise control, wireless smartphone charging, a panoramic sunroof, a 360-degree camera, Hill Assist, a high beam assist, etc.

Variants and Powertrains

The BYD Dolphin will be available in 4 different variants namely the Active, Boost, Design, and Comfort. The carmaker will offer a 44.9kWh battery pack and a 95hp electric motor in Dolphin Active.

However, the Dolphin Boost gets a 44.9kWh battery pack and a more powerful electric motor making 176hp of power. Apart from the power, the Boost variant gets bigger 17-inch wheels and a multi-link rear suspension for enhanced drivability.

The Dolphin also gets a Comfort variant with a large 60.4kWh battery pack and a more powerful 205hp electric motor. At last, the Dolphin Design boasts additional features like two-tone paintwork and tri-colour alloy wheels. However, the technical specs of the Design variant are similar to its Comfort variant.

Performance, Range, and Charging Time

The range-topping variant offers 205hp and 310nm of output. Moreover, it has the highest claimed WLTP driving range of 426 km on a single charge. The car supports a maximum of 88kW DC charging power which charges the vehicle from 30% to 80% in 29 minutes.

Apart from this, the Dolphin can be charged by an 11kW 3-phase electric charger. BYD claims that the 205hp variant can hit 0-100 in 7 seconds and a top speed of 160km/h. The hatchback also supports Vehicle to Load (VtoL) technology which can be used to charge other external electric devices.
