After unveiling the car earlier this month, Bentley has now announced the new Continental GT3-R will be showcased at the 2014 Goodwood Festival of Speed. The limited edition Continental GT3-R is based on the track specific Continental GT3 and comes with more power fitted into a lighter body.
The Bentley Continental GT3-R has lost a whopping 100 kg (220 lbs) of weight with the removal of the rear seats and the use of a titanium exhaust system and lightweight forged 21-inch alloy wheels shod with Pirelli tires.
According to Wolfgang Dürheimer, Chairman and Chief Executive of Bentley Motors: “The experience of driving a Continental GT3-R is awe-inspiring, and takes the dynamic abilities of our Grand Tourer to new heights. We were inspired to create something extremely special for the road by the performance of our Continental GT3. It is a celebration of the Bentley passion for building outstanding drivers’ cars. To be a true Bentley, the GT3-R had to be the most luxurious track-inspired Grand Tourer ever, and this car pushes our trademark combination of luxury and performance to a new level.”
The GT3-R is not only light but also more powerful than the GT V8 S as the twin-turbo V8 4.0-liter has turbochargers with a higher boost and a new engine control software which have increased the max power output from 528 PS (389 kW) and 680 Nm (520 lb-ft) to 580 PS (426 kW) at 6,000 rpm and 700 Nm (516 lb-ft) from 1,700 rpm. All the 580 PS of power is transferred to an all wheel drive system featuring a torque vectoring system via an eight-speed ZF automatic transmission. The Bentley Continental GT3-R sprints to 62 mph (100 km/h) from standstill in just 3.8 seconds, making it 0.7 seconds quicker than the aforementioned GT V8 S. Although being quick to the ton, due to the short gearing of the gearbox the top speed has decreased from 192 mph (309 km/h) to 170 mph (273 km/h).
The limited edition will enjoy a production run of 300 units and all of them will wear a Glacier White paint with glossy carbon fiber contrasts on the headlamp bezels, bumpers strips and grille while the side profile will boast two-tone green graphics.
