Indian Army Maruti Gypsy

VIDEO: Watch the Indian Army Dismantle and Reassemble a Maruti Gypsy in under 2 minutes

Ever changed a punctured tire with the spare one and felt accomplished? Well, then watch the Indian Army dismantle and reassemble a Maruti Gypsy in under 2 minutes, and reconsider that thought. Even though its a bit archaic, the Maruti Gypsy is the favorite vehicle of the Indian Army.

Though it isn’t the most powerful, the Gypsy’s lightweight structure and compact dimensions mean that its as sure-footed as a mountain goat. It’s robust, yet simple engineering allows it to be reliable, while also letting it to be dismantled and reassembled quickly for the Army to efficiently transport them in bulk to remote, war torn areas.

The Gypsy draws power from a 1.3-litre, fuel injected petrol engine good for 80 bhp and 103 Nm of torque. The engine’s mated to a 5-speed MT, while power is sent to all four wheels (wrapped with AT rubber) using a basic 4WD system with low range. There’s leaf springs that jiggle you about inside the spartan cabin, with the only convenience feature being a power steering.
