Maruti Suzuki’s much awaited entry level diesel car is currently in the final phase of testing. The Maruti Celerio diesel has been spotted testing in the land of the rising Sun and looking at the production ready cars, it should be launched in India anytime soon. The Celerio diesel is rumored to share its 793 cc diesel engine with the upcoming Maruti LCV, called the Y9T. With an 800 cc engine under the hood, the car should be able to return an excellent double digit efficiency figure somewhere in the high 20’s or might even breach the 30 kmpl mark!
The entry level diesel hatchback should come in 3 trims, LDi, VDi and the ZDi, where the VDi might come with an option of ABS too. This smallest diesel unit to feature in a car in India has been designed by Suzuki engineers in-house and will feature common rail technology which will help the 800 cc engine develop a respectable 50 bhp.
The car might also be offered with AMT at some stage and when launched will be the most affordable new diesel car one can buy in India, unless the Tata Nano diesel beats Maruti and is launched before the Celerio.
