ktm-honda-hero-comparo

KTM revealed its much awaited full faired RC series on September 9 at an event in Pune. The RC200 and RC390 are the fully faired variants of the 200 Duke and 390 Duke respectively. The KTM RC200 is a potential threat to Honda CBR250R and the Hero Karizma ZMR so we put the Austrian against the Japanese and the Indian (trust us, we are as patriotic as you are) motorcycles.

Here is how the KTM RC200 fairs against the competition on paper:

With the 249cc liquid-cooled, 4-stroke engine that churns out 26hp of power and 22.9Nm of torque, the Honda CBR is the most powerful motorcycle amongst the three. The KTM, even with its 199.5cc engine manages to put up 25hp of power and 19Nm of torque finishing second in the race. The Hero Karizma ZMR, despite having a 223cc engine, produces just 20hp of power which brings it last in the competition.

In terms of power-to-weight ratio, the KTM RC200, with its 144kg weight, out does the Honda CBR250R and Hero Karizma ZMR. The RC200 has a power-to-weight ratio 174hp per tonne as against 156hp per tonne of CBR250R. The Karizma finishes last with 127hp per tonne.

The Karizma ZMR, amongst the three, has the largest fuel tank with 15.3 litre of capacity. The CBR250R comes second with its 13 litre fuel tank while the KTM RC200 comes last with its 10 litre canister. In fact, the RC200’s fuel tank is even less than the 200 Duke’s fuel tank capacity (11 litre).

So the argument boils down to pricing of these three motorcycles. The Hero MotoCorp Karizma ZMR, at Rs 1.14 lakh* is cheaper by almost Rs 38,000/Rs 66,000 than the Honda CBR250R standard/ABS and Rs 55,000 than the KTM RC200. Honda finishes second with a price tag of Rs 1.52 lakh* for the standard edition and Rs 1.80 lakh* for ABS variant. The KTM, at Rs 1.60 lakh*, is the most expensive motorcycle amongst the three.

But with the expensive price tag, KTM packs in loads of features like the premium up-side down front forks, an all digital, multifunction instrument cluster, projector headlights with day-time running lights, LED tail lamp, LED turn indicators and many such unique features.

This is our take on these three motorcycles. Which one would you like to see in your parking space? Share your thoughts and opinions through comments section. Stay tuned to Motoroids for more updates from the motoring world.

  1. Compare to overall performance.cbr stands long lasting.so my option is cbr.and am requesting the author suvil to his option of these bike and suggest me a bike with these three.

  2. KTM is made of Fibre body where CBR steel body that makes CBR heavier.

As we live we do need to worry about mileage where in KTM loses.

I am bike freak reasearhed everywhere but still haven’t found one similar looking as RC 200, but CBR fails to gives a peculiar look…

I vote KTM RC 200 and booked one too…

  3. Instead of ZMR you could have included R15. Even though less capacity it at least can stand in that shootout and looks decent.
