Mahindra opens future-ready design studio in Mumbai

Quick Overview

  • Mahindra inaugurates a significantly larger India Design Studio (MIDS) in Mumbai.
  • The facility will cater to Auto, Farm, and Last Mile Mobility divisions.
  • Designed as a collaborative hub with Mahindra’s UK-based MADE studio.

Mahindra & Mahindra has just pulled the wraps off its upgraded India Design Studio (MIDS) in Mumbai. More than just an office revamp, this state-of-the-art design facility marks a significant milestone in Mahindra’s product development journey. If the brand’s design language has evolved over the last few years—think XUV700 and Thar—you now know where the magic happens.

Mahindra design studio development

Established in 2015, the original MIDS served as a creative hotspot for Mahindra’s Auto and Farm sectors. Fast forward to 2025, and the portfolio has expanded to include Last Mile Mobility (LMM). Naturally, the studio had to keep up. So, the space has now doubled in size, not just to accommodate more designers but also to integrate new-age technologies and better workflows.

The new MIDS isn’t just about aesthetics and clay models. It now features advanced design tools, machinery, and even dedicated functions like Human-Machine Interface (HMI) Design and Design Quality & Realisation. In simple terms, the place is future-ready—right from sketch to showroom.

Pratap Bose, Mahindra’s Chief Design and Creative Officer, seems pretty stoked. And rightly so. The studio is envisioned as a talent magnet and a creative powerhouse that collaborates closely with Mahindra Advanced Design Europe (MADE) in the UK. So, while the roots stay Indian, the branches are definitely global.

What’s exciting is how MIDS is positioning itself in India’s design ecosystem. With international studios like Tata’s UK-based design centres and Hyundai’s Namyang global R&D in Korea, Mahindra now has a firmer seat at the global table. It’s an interesting play, especially as Mahindra sharpens its EV focus through products like the BE range.

While no new model has been announced alongside the studio’s launch, expect the influence of this facility to shape future Mahindra vehicles—likely with sharper creases, smarter cabins, and cleaner user interfaces.

Final Thoughts

Mahindra’s new design den is here, and it’s not just a pretty face. It’s a full-blown think tank on wheels (well, behind wheels). From farm tractors to futuristic EVs, if you see something that makes you go “Ooh, that’s a Mahindra?”, chances are it started right here in Mumbai—with a sketch, a vision, and probably a lot of coffee.
