Volkswagen is one of the leading German carmakers in the world. The carmaker has recently revealed its plans of launching a slew of special edition variants of Taigun and Virtus. Now, the brand has launched the special edition models with a starting price of Rs. 16.79 Lakhs Ex-Showroom.

The carmaker has launched the GT Edge Limited Collection models. Under this edition, the Taigun gets the GT-Plus variants with the options of a manual and DSG transmission. Furthermore, the GT Plus variant of the Taigun can be had with new paint shades such as Deep Black Pearl or Carbon Steel Grey matte finish. However, the Virtus GT Plus variant is also available with a Deep Black Pearl paint job.
Volkswagen introduces new variants
Volkswagen has launched new variants of the Taigun and the Virtus. Earlier, the Virtus GT was only available with a 7-speed DSG transmission. But now, the carmaker has launched a 6-speed manual transmission, too. With this update, the Virtus shares its line-up with its sibling, Skoda Slavia.
Like the Virtus, the Taigun GT Plus variant is also available with a Manual Transmission too. With this addition, the buyers of Taigun GT Plus can choose from either a 6-speed manual or a 7-speed DSG gearbox. Moreover, the Taigun GT variant also gets the 7-speed DSG gearbox along with a 6-speed manual gearbox too. The addition of transmission options depicts the brand’s aim for attracting more audiences.
Why Volkswagen introduced the Manual Transmission variants?
The carmaker has targeted the GT line variants towards the enthusiasts demanding the thrill of a manual transmission. There are various factors which are considered by the enthusiasts including a powerful engine, a manual transmission and precisely tuned dynamics. Volkswagen successfully embedded the powerful engine and dynamics in their cars last year but the fun was incomplete without a manual Gearbox.
After considering the feedback from the customers demanding the adrenaline rush, Volkswagen has launched the Manual Transmission variants in the Virtus and Taigun models in India. Furthermore, the Manual Transmission is cheaper than the DSG sibling and it can deliver excellent fuel efficiency depending on the driving patterns. With the launch of Manual Transmission variants, the GT trims of Taigun and Virtus will appeal to a wider range of enthusiasts seeking for a fun-to-drive vehicle.
The Powertrain Options and Rivals
Both the Volkswagen Taigun and Virtus are powered by 1.0L 3-cylinder TSi and 1.5L 4-cylinder TSi turbocharged petrol engines. While the 1.0 makes 114hp and 178nm, the 1.5 produces 148hp and 250nm of output. The 1.0L can be had with either a 6-speed manual or an automatic gearbox. While the 1.5L can be had with either a 6-speed manual or a DSG gearbox.
Volkswagen Virtus continues to compete with Skoda Slavia, Maruti Ciaz, Honda City, and Hyundai Verna. While the Volkswagen Taigun takes on the likes of the Hyundai Creta, MG Astor, Kia Seltos, Maruti Grand Vitara, Skoda Kushaq, etc.
