Royal Enfield has taken the covers off the all-new Super Meteor 650, the elder sibling to the popular Meteor 350. The motorcycle is based on the REs 650 bikes – the Interceptor, and the Continental GT

Official Statements
Commenting on Royal Enfield’s cruiser lineage and approach to building motorcycles, Siddhartha Lal, Managing Director of Eicher Motors Ltd. said, “We have always had a differentiated approach to building motorcycles and our new cruiser, the Super Meteor 650, is the next evolution of this approach. Inspired by our own long-distance riding experiences and those of our customers, we have built the Super Meteor to be absolutely enjoyable to all senses. The engine is super refined and responsive and offers a relaxed part-throttle experience at highway-plus speeds, the riding ergonomics are fine-tuned to offer a leisurely, yet in-control riding experience and the overall premium fit-finish of parts and materials evoke visual and sensory delight. The gorgeous silhouette and contours of the Super Meteor have been inspired by generations of cruisers from Royal Enfield, and are at the same time, familiar, yet absolutely distinct.”

Speaking about the engineering that underpins the Super Meteor 650, Royal Enfield CEO, B Govindarajan, said, “Even at the start of the development journey of the 650 parallel twin platform we were clear about our intentions of designing and building a true-blue highway cruiser. It’s been a while in the making but we are very glad that it is finally here. The 650 twin engine has been at the heart of the resounding global success of the Interceptor and the Continental GT 650 and we are confident that this platform, in a new cruiser avatar, will bring in new riders for Royal Enfield across the world.”
Super Meteor – What is It?
The Super Meteor is a cruiser motorcycle with the same parallel twin engine as the Interceptor and the Continental GT. It gets a new tubular frame chassis and more relaxed riding ergonomics. The motorcycle also gets upside down front forks and alloy wheels, which is a first for REs 650 cc range motorcycles. In simple words, the Super Meteor is a true blue highway cruiser.

The Super Meteor is suposed to be a cruiser and it looks the part. The foot pegs and handle bar are desing and placed in a way that will give the rider an upright riding position. It also gets a classic tear drop fuel tank (15.7 L). Overall, the design is inspired by the Meteor 350 but the proportions have grown bigger. Another first is the presence of an LED headlamp unit which you would not see on any RE motorcycle as of today. It is also one of the heaviest RE motorcycles weighing in at 241 kg.

Variants
The 650 CC Cruiser will be available in two body styles namely, the Super Metero 650 and the Super Meteor 650 Tourer. The former is a solo cruiser and will come with a single seat configuration as standard. It will come in five colours which are Astral Black, Astral Blue, Astral Green, Interstellar Grey and Interstellar Green.

The Super Meteor 650 Tourer is the Grand Tourer variant and gets the pillion seat as well. This motorcycle will be available in two colors – Celestial Red and Celestial Blue

Engine
The Super Meteor 650 will share its engine with the Interceptor and the Continental GT. In its current state of tune, the engine puts out 47 bhp at 7250 RPM and a peak torque of 52.3 Nm at 5670 RPM. However, we expect RE to tinker around with the tuning for this motorcycle given its cruiser characteristics.
Launch In India
While the motorcycle was globally revealed at EICMA 2022 in Milan, we would not have to wait too long to see it here in India. If reports are to be believed, the motorcycle will be showcased at Rider Mania 2022 in Goa which is scheduled for 18th to 20th November. We could also get the price reveal and more details on the India-spec Super Meteor at the event.
Price
The Super Metero 650 will be the flagship model in the 650 CC line-up and is expected to be priced a little higher than the top-spec Continental GT. We expect the price to be in the ₹3.5L to ₹3.75L range.
