Volkswagen CrossPolo spotted testing in India

Our friends at ICB have come up with spy pics of a Volkswagen CrossPolo test mule that has been spotted in India! The CrossPolo was caught when undergoing road tests at Chakan, near Pune.

We aren’t too surprised to see the CrossPolo in India. It seems like VW has taken a leaf out of Skoda India’s book as the CrossPolo will be to the Polo what the Fabia Scout is to the Fabia. Visually, the VW CrossPolo is a more masculine and rugged looking variant of the B segment hatchback. The CrossPolo comes with body cladding, larger wheels, roof rails and rugged looking bumpers.

It is expected that the India spec Volkswagen CrossPolo will continue to be powered by the same set of engines that power the Polo. This means that the car would get a 1.2 litre, 75bhp petrol and a 1.2 litre, 75bhp diesel motor. There are also good chances that the car will get the recently introduced 1.2 litre TSI turbo petrol motor that powers the new Polo GT TSI in India. This motor has a max power output of 105bhp and comes mated to a 7 speed DSG gearbox.

It is no secret that the Fabia Scout hasn’t exactly managed to take our car market by storm and is one of the rarest sights on the roads. This means that VW India needs to get it really right with the CrossPolo and it would be interesting to see if the upcoming variant of the Polo would be potent enough to put on a much better show than the Fabia Scout.
