Video: Toyota cooks a breakfast for dozens with lost braking energy

Toyota Hybrid breakfast

Sure, it’s tough to believe, but that’s what Toyota wants to tell us. If you converted all the energy spent in braking while doing a lap of Le Mans in Toyota’s TS040 race car, you will have 6000,000 joules of energy to spare. Now in a typical scenario, the TS040 race car shown in the video would harvest the energy from regenerative braking, store it in its supercapacitor and later use it to assist its V8 motor in making the car go faster.

In this case, however, all the energy produced while braking is channelled through wires into equipment that cooks breakfast. While we cannot be sure whether the cooking equipment shown in the video is actually powered by the car or is simulated, but Toyota have done their calculations and managed to let us know what those 6 million joules of energy are worth anyway.

In essence, you would be able to make 171.4 cups of coffee, 83.3 slices of toast, or 57.7 fried eggs if only you managed to bring the energy lost in braking doing one lap of Le Mans. Think about it the next time you accelerate hard while knowing you will have to brake equally hard owing to traffic or a turn ahead. Someone could have cooked a meal on that power

PS: Toyota, next time hire artists who do not over act so much
