The Lifestyle Pickup segment is fast heating up in India! It seems like Mahindra owned Korean automaker Ssangyong is readying itself to launch the Actyon Sports lifestyle dual-cab pickup in fast developing Indian car market. A third generation variant and an improved mix of the earlier Actyon and Musso Sports, the Ssangyong Actyon Sports might be launched in our country as a Tata Xenon and the Isuzu D-Max adversary.

We first saw the Ssangyong Actyon Sports at the Delhi Auto Expo last year and while Mahindra hasn’t yet made any officially stated that it intends to bring the pick up truck to the country, a Ssangyong Actyon Sports test mule was recently spotted in India.

Available in 2WD manual and 4WD automatic variants, the Ssangyong Actyon Sports is powered by a 4 cylinder e-XDi Active 1998cc turbo-diesel engine that generates 153 bhp @ 4000 rpm with torque rated at 360 nm @ 2800 rpm mated to a six speed gearbox. The Actyon Sports has been acclaimed by journalists to be a capable offroader and a frugal operator when compared to its rivals. It comes loaded with creature comforts like air-conditioning, remote keyless entry, leather steering wheel, power windows, AM/FM CD audio with MP3, USB and Aux ports, Bluetooth phone and audio streaming, steering wheel-mounted controls for telephone, audio and automatic gearshift (optional), driver’s seat lumbar support, dual front airbags and cruise control too. Phew!

Riding on 16 inches alloy wheels, the Actyon Sport features an engine immobilizer, ABS brakes, stability control, hill-start assist, traction control, rollover protection, EBD and brake assist. Now that’s certainly a long list when you consider it’s just a dual-cab pickup.

Considering the prices that it retails in Australia in the range of 26,990 AUS$ to 32,990 AUS$, the Actyon Sports isn’t expected to set the sales charts on fire- but Mahindra would rather launch it as a niche offering for a select few enthusiasts who wouldn’t mind spending a bit extra towards that weekend dose of adventure.
