As we have been saying, German performance car maker Porsche AG has planned to unveil the new Porsche 911 Targa at the North America International Auto Show 2014 in Detroit. The upcoming model pays homage to the original 911 Targa of the 1960s.

These leaked images, which swarmed the cyber space some hours back,  confirm the approach that Porsche has taken for the new Targa. The new Porsche 911 Targa sports a folding soft top, that replaces the earlier model’s glass roof, which slid under the rear window. The car also features a thick B-pillar, which is brushed aluminum, and a wraparound glass rear windscreen that looks very similar to the one on the original 911 Targa.

Quite obviously, the new Porsche 911 Targa will appeal to those who require something halfway between the 911 Cabriolet and the 911 coupe. The new 991-based Porsche 911 Targa could go on sale with two engine options- an entry level 345hp 3.4-liter flat six and a 395hp 3.6-liter for the more powerful S variant.
