Following the inauguration of its first overseas manufacturing plant in China, Jaguar Land Rover’s new Engine Manufacturing Center in the UK has been inaugurated as well. The Tata owned British manufacturer opened it’s new plant near Wolverhampton, England. Queen Elizabeth II and Prince Philip marked their presence as well, signalling the importance of the event.

Built with an investment of 500 million pounds, the state-of-the-art plant created 1,400 new jobs. The new factory is environmentally correct too- to meet about about 30 percent of the site’s electricity needs, the plant employs UK’s largest solar array with 21,000 panels.

The factory will soon be busy building JLR’s latest Ingenium four-cylinders, starting with the 2.0-liter diesel version- for the new XE range. “Our new Engine Manufacturing Centre is an important step in advancing the competitiveness and capability of the UK automotive sector. The production of in-house engines will support the expansion of the UK supply chain providing critical mass for inward investment,” said Trevor Leeks, plant operations director.
