The BMW 1 Series is finally here! The Indian subsidiary of BMW today launched the much discussed 1 Series in our car market for a starting price of INR 20.9 lakhs.
The BMW 1 Series comes to us via CKD route and will be assembled at the car maker’s Chennai plant. The 1 Series has gone on sale with both petrol and diesel engine options.
Powering the petrol variant, which is called as the 116i, is a 1.6-liter turbocharged four-cylinder engine with max power of 136bhp and peak torque of 220Nm. The engine comes mated to an 8-speed automatic transmission that sends power to the rear wheels. The car has an ARAI certified fuel economy of 16.28kmpl and can hit 100kmph from standstill in 8.7 seconds. The top whack is pegged at 210kmph.
Powering the diesel variant, which is called as the 118d, is a 2.0-liter turbocharged four-cylinder motor that has a max power of 143bhp and peak torque of 320Nm. This engine too comes mated an 8-speed auto ‘box that sends power to rear wheels. The diesel variant has an ARAI certified fuel economy of 20.58kmpl and can hit 100kmph from standstill in 8.6 seconds. The top speed is pegged at 212kmph.
