At Auto Expo 2016, Maruti took the wraps off the Ignis Concept, a sub-4 meter, compact SUV that will be subsequently launched during the festive season of 2016.  Both the Ignis, as well as the Baleno RS Concept will be available through Maruti’s new upscale Nexa outlets.

Previewed by the iM-4 Concept, which was showcased at the Geneva Motor Show in March 2015, the Ignis made its world debut at the Tokyo Motor Show in November last year.

The chunky styling, jeweled headlamps, flared wheel arches and the deftly chrome trimmed front fascia has been retained from the concept, with mild alterations to the glasshouse and overhangs. The rear bumper gets a large black insert running across it, while the tail gets a couple of spoilers.

The Ignis Concept measures 3,700 mm in length, 1,660 mm in width and 1,595 mm in height, while ground clearance is rated at 180 mm and wheelbase stands at 2,435 mm. Under the bonnet, Ignis will get the familiar 1.3 L MultiJet diesel engine, along with the 1.2 L VTVT petrol engine from the Swift and the Baleno.

The original iM-4 Concept was powered by a 1.2 litre DualJet petrol engine that is mated to an integrated starter generator (ISG) with a lithium-ion battery that sends power through an all-wheel drive system. On launch, the Ignis will go head to head against the Ford EcoSport.
