BYD Yuan

An Ecosport like BYD Yuan from China does 0 to 100 km/h in just 4.9 seconds

Not only does the BYD Yuan look like a heavily reskinned Ford Ecosport, its 4320 mm length, 1765 mm width and 1650mm height, along with a wheelbase of 2520mm, puts it squarely in the compact Ford’s dimensional territory as well. But both the vehicles have their share of differences, with the Chinese counterpart being alarmingly brisk – the BYD Yuan can accelerate from 0 to 100 km/h in a Porsche rivalling 4.9 seconds!

The new BYD Yuan SUV, scheduled for debut on Monday at the 2015 Shanghai Auto Show, is the hybrid variant of the upcoming petrol-powered BYD S1 sub-compact SUV. That stellar acceleration is achieved with a 1.5 liter naturally aspirated engine, coupled with two electric motors  installed in both front and rear axles to achieve four-wheel drive. Power figures haven’t been disclosed yet, while in electric mode the Yuan has a range of 70 kilometers.

Styling is subjective, and similarities between the Ecosport all around are hard to ignore, especially the asymmetrically positioned rear door handle integrated into the tail light. That spare wheel cover is the funkiest we’ve seen yet, and BYD wants that you take the Yuan’s 0-100 km/h time very seriously – hence the 4.9 S badge at the back!
