Honda’s new scaled down 1-litre and 1.5-litre VTEC TURBO engines will be a part of the powertrain line-up for the 10th generation Civic, set for launch in Europe from early 2017. These baby VTECs will deliver a dynamic performance. They will provide a class-leading output and excellent fuel economy. Europe will be the first in receiving these all new downsized turbo petrol engines.

Footed on a completely new engine structure and its newly developed turbo systems, the new engines will achieve class-leading output and environmental performance with the help of a variable valve motion technology which reduces friction. In comparison to the conventional naturally-aspirated engines the new engines will use a turbocharger with a low moment of inertia and high responsiveness, and direct injection technology to strike a balance between high output and torque.

The all-new engines will be part of Honda’s growing Earth Dreams Technology range and will deliver outstanding performances. These two new smaller turbo-charged engines are launched in response to the market demand and the rising trend for increased fuel efficiency without compromising on power. Honda’s first new 2 litre VTEC TURBO engine, was launched this year in the current Civic Type R, capable of 310ps and a 0-62 mph time of 5.7 seconds.

In early 2017 Europe will witness the debut of new VTEC engines in the all new 10th Gen Civic after being announced at Frankfurt Motor Show in September. The new Civic is expected to drive on an 8-speed dual-clutch transmission rather than the current 5-speed automatic.Five door variants will be exclusively produced at Honda’s UK manufacturing plant (HUM) in Swindon. Honda has confirmed investment of €270m in new production technologies and processes to prepare for the new model.
