Tresa Motors Unveils Its First Global Truck: Model V0.1

Bengaluru-based Tresa Motors on Monday unveiled its first electric commercial vehicle, the Model V0.1. The launch aims to showcase “Currently, India has a fleet of 2.8 million trucks, contributing to 60 per cent of emissions, highlighting the urgent need for zero emissions medium and heavy trucks. With the upcoming vehicle scrappage policy in 2024 and increasing fuel costs, the time is ripe for a shift towards medium and heavy electric trucks.”

Indeed, the claims made by Tersa Motors about their upcoming electric truck, Model V0.1, do sound quite promising. They state that it will be India’s first fully electric truck and will feature the Flux350, India’s most powerful electric motor, producing 350 kW of peak power and 600 Nm of torque at 4500 RPM. Additionally, they mention the MEG50, a liquid-cooled 50 kWh battery. They are also aiming for having a range of 600kms

While these specifications do sound impressive, it’s essential to approach such claims with a degree of skepticism until the actual performance and real-world testing of the truck are available. Achieving a range of 600 km seems ambitious, considering the energy density of current battery technology. However, Tresa motors are going to tackle this situation by using six- of their MEG50 Battery units. Making the total theoretical battery capacity to 300 kWh.

Battery capacity alone is not the sole factor affecting the range of an electric vehicle. Factors such as vehicle weight, aerodynamics, driving conditions, speed, and driving style also play crucial roles in determining the actual range. Additionally, the efficiency of the electric drivetrain and the energy management systems of the vehicle can greatly impact its range.

It is important to wait for independent reviews, third-party testing, and real-world performance data to evaluate the actual capabilities of Tersa Motors’ Model V0.1. These factors will provide a more accurate assessment of whether the claimed range and performance figures can be achieved in practice.

If everything is executed well, Tersa Motors can become the next big thing in trucking.
