Toyota Hilux Champ Pick-Up Launched

Toyota has revealed its latest creation, the Hilux Champ pickup, marking the first model built on the IMV 0 platform.

Previously teased as the IMV 0 concept, this pickup is set to make waves, especially after its grand unveiling in Thailand. While initial sales will kick off there, Toyota plans to extend its reach to other markets like Indonesia, Africa, and South America.

Two Wheelbase Options

A key feature of the Hilux Champ lies in its adaptability, offering two wheelbase options to cater to diverse preferences. The Short Wheelbase (SWB) version, measuring 4.9 meters in length, 1.8 meters in width, and 1.8 meters in height.

On the other hand, the Long Wheelbase (LWB) variant stretches to 5.3 meters, maintaining identical width and height to the SWB but offering a more spacious interior with a 3,085mm wheelbase. Both versions boast a 180mm ground clearance, ensuring versatility on various terrains.

Customization

The Hilux Champ emerges as the second offering under Toyota’s Hilux brand, positioning itself as a customizable vehicle. With up to 10 configurations available, the pickup allows buyers the flexibility to tailor it according to their needs.

While the platform, mechanics, and essential body panels remain consistent, third-party car body-builders can customize specific features to align with individual preferences.

Powertrain

The heart of the Hilux Champ beats with three formidable powertrain choices. A 2.4-liter diesel engine, generating 150hp, offers two gearbox options – a 5-speed manual producing 350Nm torque and a 6-speed automatic with a robust 400Nm torque.

Additionally, two naturally aspirated 4-cylinder petrol engines, a 2.0-liter variant with 130hp and 183Nm and a 2.7-liter option producing 166hp and 245Nm of torque, provide a diverse range of choices.

Affordable Off-Roader and Fortuner Derivative

While the official word on an Indian debut remains pending, the IMV 0 platform sets the stage for development in emerging markets. Speculations suggest the platform could birth an affordable version of the Fortuner, expanding Toyota’s SUV offerings.

Industry insiders hint at the Hilux Champ making its way to India, potentially followed by an SUV derivative within a year of the pickup’s launch.

Our Thoughts

The unveiling of the Toyota Hilux Champ represents a milestone in the evolution of pickups, combining customization, power, and adaptability. As Toyota paves the way for its future in diverse markets, the Hilux Champ stands poised to redefine the driving experience.
