Tata Altroz Gets RDE Compliant Motor, Price Hike

Back in 2020, the whole auto industry witnessed a big change with the onset of BS6 emission regulations due to which all carmakers had to make changes to their engines in order to make them comply with the norms. This resulted in the consumers getting much smoother and more refined engines for the most part.

And now with Phase II of BS6 norms set to be implemented this April, we are seeing more and more automakers upgrading their powertrains to meet the Real Driving Emissions.

As reported earlier, the homegrown automaker Tata Motors has already updated its Punch Micro SUV with the newer powertrain and now the company’s premium hatchback has also received the same treatment.

Here are all the details regarding the Altroz with the RDE-compliant engine.

Tata Altroz RDE-Compliant Engine

Tata has made some significant changes to its engines to make them comply with the norms which have resulted in increased smoothness and reduced NVH levels. Tata gives the 1.2-litre 3-cylinder Revotron engine churning 85 bhp of power and 113 Nm of torque in a host of its cars right from its entry-level offering, the Tiago to the Tigor, to the Punch and the Altroz.

There are noticeable differences in the new engine both visually and in terms of refinement. The positioning of certain parts inside the engine bay like the air filter has been revised. Visual changes aside, the automaker has also increased the amount of insulation in the car to minimize NVH in the cabin.

We believe that the reduced vibration is due to the use of better-quality engine mounts, and some internal changes to the motor like a counterbalance, etc. A test drive would give us a better understanding of how much has the engine improved.

Tata Altroz New Pricing

Tata has taken this opportunity and raised prices of the premium hatchback by around 10 to 15 thousand varying on its variants. The XZ & XZ (O) iTurbo variants see the least price increase of 5 thousand while almost all other variants (including the Dark & DCA) have been made dearer by 10k.

Except for the base XE+ Diesel, prices of all other diesel variants and the iTurbo XZ+ & XZ+ Dark variants have been raised by 15k. Notably, the Altroz will be losing its diesel powertrain from April, i.e., the implementation of RDE norms.
