[Spy Images] Is KTM RC200 being benchmarked against the Honda CBR250R?

Only today morning, we came up with spy images of the KTM RC390 and KTM RC125, taken at Bajaj-KTM manufacturing facility. Now, our friend Rohit Rane has sent us  couple of KTM RC200 images, which he took while the bike was being tested alongside a Honda CBR250R in Mahabaleshwar. It may be noted that save for the graphics, there’s not much to tell apart the RC200 from the RC390 and while the identity of this test mule is not clear, the fact that KTM has been found testing the bike alongside the CBR250R hints at the fact that this could be the RC200. Quite obviously. the RC390 would have little competition from the baby CBR and hence, there’s hardly any point behind the manufacturer benchmarking the RC390 against the Honda 250cc bike.

The excitement around the KTM RC200 launch in India is building up at a terrifyingly fast rate and of various speculations are to be believed, the bike’s global launch in mid 2014 will be soon followed by its India launch, which too could happen around the advent of the third quarter of this year. The KTM RC200 is powered by the same single cylinder 200cc DOHC engine that powers the Duke 200, albeit in a re-tuned state. The engine is likely to have a max power output of 26 PS. The bike looks sharp and would have sport ergonomics. KTM RC200 Price in India could be pegged around  INR 1,40,000-1,55,000 mark. The KTM RC200 launch in India is being eagerly awaited by the biking fraternity of our country.

  1. In another pic from bikeadvice it was the mrf zappers and not the metzelers. I guess they tested both the bikes out there as the registration number differed( MHE 105-G with mrf and MHE 105-I with metzeler). I also couldn’t find the ABS ring in the disk here 🙁 Now I think that rc200 won’t have ABS as the press release by KTM confirms only ABS compulsorily for 125 and 390 but not the 200. Anyone has any idea?

  2. Its a KTM RC390. look closely at the tires, they are Metzelers & not MRFs, only RC390 have metzelers rest have MRFs. Bajaj-KTM is testing all the bikes viz. RC390, RC200, SS200, maybe SS400 and the new pulsars. Also Bajaj-KTM is not testing the bike with any other bikes from other manufacturers. If i’m not wrong then the bike is being tested in all probablity by xBHP guys splly the moderators reason being KTM DUKE 390 & Bajaj Pulsar 200NS were tested in the similar fashion by Xbhp members even after the media launch of the respective bikesfor more dan 10K kms, You can check the xbhp forums for the same. that is the reason why these bikes are seen in and around maharashtra and the neighboring states. this is done splly to check the long term durability of the bikes and to find any issues that can be sorted out in production, read test mule of Pulsar 200NS had 35 watts headlight setup which was changed to 55 watts setup. For the bikes from other manufacturers are concerned, they might belong to other members of xbhp who might be accompnying them.

Disclaimer: I’m not related to any biking group in particular nor with any manufacturer. watever i claim here is out of my own experience and going througn all the short and long term reviews from various biking sites. the reason why i mentioned xbhp is because i havnt seen any other biking portal being officially asked by Bajaj-KTM to review their bikes for long term reviews. I might be wrong though and would be happy to be one.

    cheers,
    Ride Safe.
