Skoda Auto Volkswagen India Celebrates 1.5 Million Production Milestone

Skoda Auto Volkswagen India Private Limited (SAVWIPL) has achieved significant production milestones at its state-of-the-art manufacturing facility in Chakan, India. These milestones include the production of over 1.5 million vehicles and the celebration of the 10th anniversary of its Engine Shop, which has produced more than 380,000 engines.

A Landmark Achievement for Skoda Auto Volkswagen India Private Limited

SAVWIPL’s Chakan facility has been a cornerstone of its operations since the first Skoda Fabia rolled off the line in 2009. The plant has since produced a range of iconic models for the Volkswagen Group, including the VW Vento, Polo, Skoda Fabia, and Rapid. More recently, the facility has been instrumental in manufacturing the INDIA 2.0 range – the VW Taigun and Virtus, and the Skoda Kushaq and Slavia – which have together crossed the 300,000 unit production mark.

Commitment to ‘Make in India’

The Engine Shop at Chakan has also hit a significant milestone, producing over 300,000 engines, with a strong focus on local sourcing. The 1.0L TSI engines, in particular, rely heavily on components manufactured within India, aligning with the national ‘Make in India’ initiative. This effort is complemented by the company’s balanced approach to automation and a continued investment in local talent, supporting the ‘Skill India’ movement.

SAVWIPL is not only catering to the domestic market but also significantly contributing to India’s global presence as a manufacturing hub. Over 30% of its vehicles are exported to nearly 40 markets worldwide, positioning the company among the top four exporters of India-made cars. This demonstrates Indian manufacturing capabilities and adherence to international quality standards.

Future Outlook

As SAVWIPL looks to the future, it remains committed to innovation and sustainability. By prioritizing research and development, building strategic partnerships, and investing in talent development, the company is laying the groundwork for future growth. SAVWIPL’s achievements highlight its role in driving progress and shaping the future of mobility in India, contributing to the national mission of ‘Atmanirbhar Bharat’ and fostering growth and prosperity within local communities.
