Ola Rolls Out MoveOS 3 For Their Scooters

Ola Electric has rolled out the MoveOS 3 software update to all the existing scooters. The OS roll out in a phased manner and will reach all the 1 lakh+ customers in a week.

Ola Software Update Track Record

The scooters were launched with the MoveOS 1 in Aug 2021 while deliveries began in December. Within 7 months, Ola rolled out the second version of the OS which brought features like Cruise Control, Speaker access, and better range as well. Today Ola has announced that they are rolling out the biggest update yet which will have 50+ updates to the scooter. Looking at the track record, Ola is the only EV maker in the country that has rolled out two major software updates within a year. Given the number of Ola scooters running on Indian roads, this is also the biggest software update which will be going out to 1 lakh+ scooters.

Major Updates

Though Ola has claimed that there are 50+ feature updates or tweaks, listing all of them down would not be possible. We will go ahead and share all the ones that are significant and directly impact the user experience.

Performance

The first major update that will impact the users is Hypercharging. The Ola S1 and S1 Pro can now hypercharged at lightning speeds. To be precise, the hypercharger can charge the scooter to give 50 km range in just 15 mins. Users will now also get three regen modes which can be selected from the scooter menu. Each mode has a different level of lever-less braking. Just like pedal-less driving in cars.

A first in scooters, the Ola S1, and S1 pro will get Hill Hold assist. On an incline, users can hit the brakes and release them while the scooter detects that it is on an incline (upward). This feature is available in Beta test mode and the full version will be rolled out over a period of time. The scooter also gets vacation mode where you can leave the scooter in this mode for nearly 200 days and the battery will not go into deep discharge.

Convenience

There are quite a few additions on the convenience front as well. Users can not upload their documents to the app and access them on the scooter’s screen. Bluetooth calling has also been enabled where calls can be answered using the onboard mic and speakers. The hazard lamps have also been activated with the new OS.

There are also some fun and quirky features. The scooter now gets multiple moods where riders can select what their display looks like. The scooters already had the Eclipse mood and now will have the Bolt and Vintage moods as well. There is also a party mode where the scooter turns into a party machine, flashing its lights as the music flows.

Access Features

A very important update in my view, the Ola scooters now get proximity lock and unlock. Once the user’s phone that has been configured with the scooter comes in close proximity, the scooter will unlock itself. Once the user walks away and passes 8-10 feet it locks itself. If you have multiple riders at your home, you can now set up user profiles as well. Within the profiles, the master user can define speed limits, geo-fencing etc.

MoveOS 3 is a huge update and we won’t be able to do justice in explaining all of them with an article. We will be doing a detailed video on it soon so stick around to our social handles.
