MG, the British automaker, is taking a more aggressive approach in the Indian market. They recently announced the sportier Storm editions for the Gloster, and that’s just the beginning. MG is revamping its entire portfolio. Leaks suggest a facelift for the Astor is on the way. While these established models already have a loyal following, MG is also set to introduce brand new models to cater to a wider audience. Every car manufacturer is aiming for an electric future, and MG is no exception. The second half of 2024 can be packed with new EV launches for MG.
MG Cloud EV
Expected to be one of the first new EVs from MG this year, the Cloud EV is a rebranded version of SAIC’s Wuling Air EV (Indonesia) and Baojun Yunduo (China). It will offer a spacious, 5-seater cabin with a large touchscreen infotainment system, digital instrument cluster, and unique “sofa mode” with fully reclining front seats. Additionally, an ADAS suite with a 360-degree camera is expected.

While some might find its dimensions unconventional for an MPV, the Cloud EV boasts a competitive range of up to 460 km (based on international markets) thanks to its two battery pack options (37.9 kWh and 50.6 kWh). MG is targeting a wider audience by potentially offering both options in India, with a price range between Rs 15 lakh and Rs 20 lakh, making it more affordable than the existing ZS EV.
MG Binguo
Demonstrating their commitment to the Indian EV market, MG has just recently patented another electric car – the Binguo – before launching the Cloud EV. Similar to the Cloud EV, the Binguo is a rebranded version of an existing model from SAIC (China and Indonesia). It will compete directly with the Tata Tiago EV.

Offered in two variants, the Binguo boasts a range of up to 333 km (based on China’s CLTC cycle) with its larger battery pack. This positions it competitively against the Tiago EV’s maximum range of 315 km (MIDC). The Binguo’s interior design is expected to borrow elements from the Comet, including the dual-screen setup and steering wheel controls.
Overall, MG’s aggressive approach with both new models and updates to existing ones signifies their ambition to become a major player in the Indian EV market. And the strategy extends beyond these electric vehicles. They’re also rumored to be launching the MG 3 hatchback in India by February 2025. Priced competitively between Rs. 10.00 lakh and Rs. 12.00 lakh (ex-showroom), the MG 3 could be a strong value proposition in the hatchback segment.
