Kia India Hits 1.5 Million ‘Make in India’ Vehicles Milestone

Quick Overview

  • Kia India achieves 1.5 million ‘Make in India’ vehicles milestone in under 6 years
  • Carens becomes the landmark vehicle; facelifted version to launch on May 8
  • State-of-the-art Anantapur plant pushes India-made cars to over 90 global markets

Kia India has hit the big league. And fast. In less than six years since the first Seltos rolled out, the Korean carmaker’s Indian arm has now clocked 1.5 million made-in-India vehicles. The celebratory model? The Carens — a family favourite that’s soon getting a sharper, smarter update on May 8.

Kia India manufacturing plant

The Anantapur plant, Kia’s fortress of innovation, has done some serious heavy lifting here. Spread across 536 acres, the factory is among the most advanced in the country, churning out everything from city slickers to global exports with finesse. To date, it has built over 7 lakh units of the Seltos, 5.19 lakh Sonets, 2.41 lakh Carens, and a growing batch of Syros and Carnivals.

Kia’s rise in India hasn’t just been about numbers. The brand arrived in 2019 with the Seltos and hasn’t taken its foot off the accelerator since. From debuting high-on-style models like the Sonet to shaking up the MPV segment with the Carens, Kia has played its cards well — with an edge on tech, design, and now, even EVs like the EV6 and EV9.

Gwanggu Lee, MD & CEO, Kia India, summed it up nicely: “From the first Seltos to the 1.5 millionth Carens, every car represents our journey with Indian consumers. We are committed to shaping mobility in India with world-class innovation and design.”

And this journey isn’t slowing down. With models like the Syros aiming at the compact SUV crowd and an all-new Carens facelift on the horizon, the momentum is only building.

Final Thoughts

From Seltos to Syros, and now 1.5 million units strong — Kia’s India story is a case of speed dating turned long-term relationship. The new Carens update will be one to watch, especially if it adds more flair to its already practical personality. For now, we tip our hats to the 1.5 millionth milestone — that’s a lot of sheet metal and stories on wheels.
