JK Tyre Introduces India’s First Drifting Competition

JK Tyre, known for its tireless promotion of motorsport in India, is set to excite the country’s motorsport enthusiasts with the launch of the nation’s inaugural drifting competition. Scheduled to take place at the Buddh International Circuit (BIC) on October 16, this event is poised to usher in the world of drifting to Indian audiences, a motorsport discipline that has been gaining popularity worldwide.

Drifting: An Emerging Motorsport Discipline

Drifting is a motorsport discipline that places a premium on skill, precision, and vehicle control rather than sheer speed. Drivers skillfully slide their cars through corners using oversteer, creating a visually striking spectacle that has won the hearts of motorsport fans, particularly the younger generation. It is also one of the fastest-growing sub-disciplines of motorsport on a global scale.

JK Tyre Drift Challenge

The JK Tyre Drift Challenge will feature a lineup of 25 powerful rear-wheel-drive cars, expertly driven by some of India’s most talented drivers. The competition will span various events, each featuring specially designed track layouts that will test the limits of both driver and machine. An international panel of three drifting experts will serve as judges.

Judging the Drift

The evaluation of the drifting prowess will be based on four key aspects: line, angle, style, and speed. These criteria will be the yardstick by which the drivers’ skills and performance will be assessed.

Line: Precise adherence to the ideal line through a corner is paramount and earns higher scores.
Angle: The angle at which drivers drift their cars significantly impacts their score, with a sharper angle indicating higher skill.
Style: An essential aspect, style is associated with precise drifting and minimal steering wheel corrections.
Speed: Skillful maintenance of high speed through corners is a challenging feat. Combining all other criteria with speed earns more points.
Beyond Drifting: A Showcase of Engineering Excellence

JK Tyre Formula Imperial and Indian Karting Race

In addition to the Drift Challenge, the BIC will host the JK Tyre Formula Imperial and Indian Karting Race. Organized by the Imperial Society of Innovation Engineers (ISIEINDIA) and supported by JK Tyre, this event serves as an Industry-Academia initiative. It provides a platform for engineering students across India to innovate and develop sustainable mobility solutions.

Over 2,000 students from across India are expected to participate in this showcase of innovation, presenting their advancements in vehicle aerodynamics, battery and powertrain design, brakes, and suspension technologies. The event spans various rounds from October 12 to 16, culminating in a 12-lap endurance finale at the BIC to determine the winners.

Our Thoughts

JK Tyre’s venture into drifting and its support for engineering students underscores its commitment to diversifying and elevating the Indian motorsport landscape. The brand remains a trailblazer in the industry, fostering new motorsport disciplines and providing opportunities for the country’s emerging talents
