August 2022: Two-wheeler And Car Sales

With an end to August 2022, the industry is all set to enter the last few months of this year. Looking back at August, the Auto industry of India has witnessed many new launches and innovative plans. Despite the semiconductor shortage and supply chain issues, many manufacturers have reported a strong increase in sales as compared to the previous year. Here are some of the automakers and their August 2022 sales report.

Maruti Suzuki India Limited

The company has seen a great hike in sales in August 2022 compared to last year’s sales. In the Domestic market, Maruti sold a total of 143,692 units while last year August the units sold were 110,080. The maximum number of units sold from the compact cars segment which includes Baleno, Celerio, Dzire, Ignis, Swift, Tour S, and Wagon R; a total of 71,557 units were sold from this segment which is much higher than 45,577 units in August 2021. In the international market, the company went up from 20,619 units exported in August 2021 to 21,481 units in August 2022. Combining the total sale of both the marketplace, domestic and international Maruti Suzuki India sold almost 30,000 more units in August 2022 compared to the last year.

Skoda

This Czech carmaker is growing at a good speed in India, the company reported the highest sales in 2021 since its entry in India in 2012. Skoda witnessed an impressive 10% year-on-year growth this August by selling 4,222 cars. The company is also planning to double its account of the Indian automotive market, currently, the company takes over about 20% of the Indian market. Skoda is also receiving a large amount of response with its Indian 2.0 project.

Toyota

The sales of Toyota have also shown increment with a growth of 17%. The company sold a total of 14,959 units n August 2022 compared to the 12,772 units sold last year in August. The company has reported that Innova Crysta, Fortuner, and Legender are some of their top-selling models. In April-august 2022 the company has done 68% more sales growth than in the same period last year.

And The Rest

Mahindra has already taken over the market with its new launches and that reflects in its sales. Mahindra has secured 87% growth in August 2022 compared to last year by selling 29,516 units. Given tough competition, Kia has secured a place in India’s top 5 carmakers by doing 7.8% more sales in Q3 than in Q1 of 2022. Where Seltos is in lead with 8,652 units sold, followed by 5,558 units of Sonet and 274 units of Carnival. Tata motors have also faced year-on-year growth of 68% with 47,166 units sold in August 2022. Hyundai motors has a sale increase of 6% with 49,510 units sold in August 2022. On the contrary side, there are a few brands that faced a decline, which include Nissan India with a 2% decrease in sales. MG Motors too had a fall down of 11% in August 2022. The maximum sale drop was faced by Honda cars with a 30% decline in year-on-year growth followed by the 28% decrease of Renault.

Two-wheelers

Unlike the four-wheeler, almost all the two-wheeler makers have witnessed growth in August 2022. Starting with the highest 61% hike in year-on-year sales of Royal Enfield, Bajaj Auto too experienced sale growth from 1,79,999 units sold in 2021 to 2,33,838 units in August 2022 the sales of Bajaj went up by 48%. Falling right after that TVS Motors showed a growth of 33% with 2,39,325 units sold. HMSI and Suzuki motorcycles both experienced similar growth of 5%.
