BMW has introduced the fourth generation of its popular X3 SUV. This new iteration boasts a completely new platform, a significant exterior and interior design overhaul, and a packed list of features and technology. While the X3 itself isn’t electric, it will soon be joined by a fully electric sibling, the iX3, which will be revealed next year.

BMW enthusiasts might notice a subtle change: the lowercase “i” is no longer part of the individual model names. This letter traditionally signified fuel injection, but BMW is now reserving it exclusively for their electric vehicles. This aligns with the recent launch of the new X1 series, which also dropped the “i” designation.
A Bolder X3 Emerges
The new X3 sits on a brand new platform and features a noticeably bolder exterior. The signature kidney grille takes center stage, illuminated on the top-of-the-line M50 xDrive model (optional on the base 30 xDrive). Sharp creases and a lower stance give the X3 a more dynamic look, echoing design elements from the latest X1.
X3 Tech
Step inside the new X3 and you’ll be greeted by a driver-centric cockpit featuring a sleek, curved dual-screen setup powered by BMW’s latest iDrive 9 infotainment system. The interior boasts a clean layout with interesting door pad designs and heated sport seats. Opt for the Alcantara upholstery for an extra touch of luxury.

Powertrain Options for Every Driver
BMW is bringing back familiar favorites under the hood. The X3 offers a choice between a 2.0-liter turbocharged 4-cylinder and a powerful 3.0-liter turbocharged inline-6 engine, both paired with a 48-volt mild-hybrid system and an 8-speed automatic transmission. The 2.0-liter delivers 255 horsepower, making it the entry point for the 2025 X3 lineup (30 xDrive).

For those seeking exhilarating performance, the M50 xDrive boasts a 3.0-liter inline-6 churning out 393 horsepower, propelling the X3 from 0-60 mph in a mere 4.4 seconds. This top-of-the-line model starts at $65,275 (including destination).
A Global Debut and an Expected Indian Arrival
While the all-electric iX3 will debut next year, the new X3 is expected to hit global markets soon. Considering the popularity of SUVs in India, a launch here is highly likely, with a starting price potentially exceeding Rs 70 lakh (ex-showroom).
