2026 Mercedes-Benz GLS Facelift Breaks Cover!

The new 2026 Mercedes-Benz GLS facelift has finally been revealed and it comes with a much bigger update than expected. This is not just about a new look. The SUV now gets stronger engines, more advanced tech and noticeable improvements in comfort and drive. It still sits as the top SUV in the lineup, but now feels more loaded and more refined than before. With these changes, it continues to take on rivals like BMW X7, Audi Q7, Volvo XC90 and Land Rover Defender.

Mercedes-Benz has also updated the GLE and GLE Coupe alongside the GLS. These models now follow a similar upgrade direction with refreshed styling, improved engines, new software system and enhanced cabin features, making the entire SUV family more modern and consistent.

Design Updates

The design still looks familiar but small changes make it stand out

  • New Digital Light LED headlamps with star-inspired lighting signature
  • Larger grille with chrome surrounds and integrated star pattern design
  • Illuminated three-pointed star (market dependent)
  • Redesigned front and rear bumpers
  • New LED tail lamps with triple star effect
  • New 21-inch and 22-inch AMG alloy wheel designs
  • New paint options including Dark Petrol and Patagonia Red
  • Slightly improved road presence with unchanged dimensions

The size remains the same but the road presence feels stronger now.

Engine And Performance

Engine updates are one of the biggest highlights

  • GLS 450 petrol now gets more torque at 560 Nm
  • GLS 580 V8 makes 537 hp and 750 Nm
  • Flat plane crankshaft added for better performance
  • Diesel models updated for better efficiency
  • All variants get 48V mild hybrid system
  • 4MATIC all wheel drive standard

The SUV also gets adaptive air suspension with height control and different drive modes. There is also active body control which helps in better ride comfort.

Mileage and smoothness are expected to improve with these changes.

Interior Updates

New interior colours like Beech Brown and new trim options like wood and aluminium are also added. Steering wheel design is updated with new controls.

The SUV continues with 7 seats as standard and also gets better insulation for a quieter drive.

Launch Timeline

Launch is expected in India by late 2026 or early 2027. The company is likely to bring the SUV first to global markets and then follow with the India rollout.
