When you hear the name Pajero, there is a lot of nostalgia attached to it. The SUV was once one of the most loved names among Indian SUV buyers. Its tough build, big road presence and strong off road image made it special. After years away, Mitsubishi is now bringing the Pajero name back with a completely new SUV.
The global debut of the new Mitsubishi Pajero is scheduled for September 2, 2026. The new SUV will return to a ladder frame chassis and will have serious off road hardware.

The new Pajero will use a body on frame setup. This is different from the previous generation, which used a monocoque structure. Some key details include:
- Global debut on September 2, 2026

- Mitsubishi S-AWC all wheel drive system
- Triton based platform
- Diesel hybrid powertrain could be offered

Pajero Gets A Digital Touch
The teaser images have revealed an interesting detail from the cabin. The familiar three gauge layout associated with the Pajero will now be shown digitally.
The display can show information for the altimeter, temperature, roll and pitch. There are also signs of ventilated seats, wireless charging and controls for features such as hill descent control and the rear differential lock.
The exterior gets H shaped daytime running lights with the Mitsubishi logo placed between them. Vertical pixel style lighting elements are also visible in the teasers.

Diesel Hybrid Could Be On The Cards
Mitsubishi has not revealed the engine details yet. Reports suggest that a diesel hybrid setup could be offered. The company has been working on this type of technology, but the Pajero’s final powertrain will be confirmed at the global debut.
There is also talk of plug in hybrid and fully electric versions for some markets in the future.
Will The Pajero Return To India?
The new Pajero is expected to reach Asian markets in early 2027. However, there is no confirmation about an India launch.
For many Indian SUV fans, the return of the Pajero name itself will be interesting. The SUV has a strong history here and the new model could bring back plenty of old memories.
The big details will come on September 2, when Mitsubishi finally shows the new Pajero in full.
