This Upcoming Electric SUV Can Shake Up The EV Space

Quick Overview

  • Vietnam-based VinFast gears up for its India debut with the VF 7 electric SUV
  • Sporty design, dual motor setup, and claimed 431 km range
  • Expected to take on the MG ZS EV, Hyundai Kona, and upcoming Tata Harrier EV

The EV space in India is about to get a serious jolt. And it’s not from the usual suspects. Say hello to the VinFast VF 7 — an all-electric midsize SUV from Vietnam’s homegrown carmaker that’s getting ready to enter India’s high-voltage EV race.

What segment does it fit in?

The VF 7 sits between the compact VF 6 and larger VF 8 globally. For India, it’s expected to lock horns with the MG ZS EV, Hyundai Kona Electric, and future launches like the Tata Harrier EV. But what makes this one stand out? For starters, it doesn’t try to be modest. It’s sharp, sleek, and carries a design that screams futuristic with those signature LED DRLs, sculpted lines, and coupe-inspired roofline. Designed by Torino Design in Italy, it certainly has more flair than most of its rivals.

VinFast VF7 performance and features

Under the hood (or the floor, to be precise), the VF 7 packs a dual-motor setup in its top Plus variant, good for 349 hp and 500 Nm of torque. It also boasts all-wheel-drive capabilities and claims a WLTP-rated range of up to 431 km. The Eco variant, with a single motor and 201 hp, will likely offer a more budget-friendly proposition and still manage over 450 km in claimed range.

Inside, it’s got a Tesla-ish minimalism vibe. There’s no instrument cluster — just a 12.9-inch central touchscreen that controls everything. Expect wireless Apple CarPlay, Android Auto, a host of ADAS features, and premium materials throughout the cabin. The boot space sits around 450 litres, making it just as practical as it is stylish.

Localization?

VinFast is also setting up a local facility in Tamil Nadu to assemble and manufacture its EVs, which should help keep prices in check. If they get the pricing right — say around ₹30-35 lakh — the VF 7 could seriously ruffle feathers in the midsize EV segment.

Final Thoughts

With its bold styling, punchy drivetrain, and global ambition, the VinFast VF 7 isn’t here to make friends. It’s here to shake things up. If the Vietnamese brand can pair that spec sheet with aggressive pricing, the VF 7 could go from a dark horse to a chart-topper real quick. All eyes on 2025 now — and maybe, just maybe, on that snazzy coupe-back profile.
