A few weeks back, based on a tweet by Overdrive, one of the leading auto mags in the country, we had reported that Piaggio India may be introducing a fiber body version of the Vespa LX125 scooter. There were murmurs about the company planning to reduce the price of the scooter to about Rs 50,ooo or thereabouts. Seems like there wasn’t much to the news than speculation, as the company has clearly denied any such development.
In an official statement released today, Piaggio Vehicles Pvt Ltd denied any plans to introduce a lower priced, or fiber bodied version of the retro styled scooter. The official media statement from the Italian company today said
Piaggio set out to create the luxury segment with the launch of the Vespa LX 125 in India in April 2012. The information on Vespa unveiling a fibre body variant and reducing price to Rs 50,000/- is untrue. We are happy to respond to any queries that may arise regarding the same.
We guess that pretty much clears the air. Vespa isn’t really going to dilute its brand value for higher sales. You will have to pay a premium if you want to look hep while riding the iconic Vespa.
