2016 BMW X1 rolls out from Chennai plant

BMW India rolled out the first 2016 X1 from the company’s plant located in Chennai. The SUV was launched in India at the Auto Expo held earlier this year in Delhi. The new X1 comes with a price tag starting at Rs. 29.90 lakh (Ex-showroom, pan-India), the X1 was unveiled by Sachin Tendulkar at the BMW pavilion.

Available in 4 variants known as the X1 sDrive20d Expedition, X1 sDrive20d xLine, X1 xDrive20d xLine and the X1 xDrive20d M Sport 2.0 litre diesel engine. This TwinPower Turbo 1995cc four cylinder engine is capable of producing a power output of 190 bhp while the peak torque of 400 Nm comes up at 1750-2500 rpm. This engine sends power to the front wheels with the help of a new eight speed steptronic automatic gearbox.

Talking about the aesthetics, the 2016 X1 receives twin circular LED headlamps, the signature kidney grille, fog lamps and a redesigned front bumper, LED tail lamps, alloy wheels and a dual exhaust setup. Coming to the interiors, the new X1 receives electrically adjustable front driver seat and passenger seat, panoramic sunroof, ambient lighting, a 6.5 inch infotainment system.

Safety features on the 2016 X1 include six air bags, ABS with brake assist, DSC with Dynamic Traction Control, Cornering Brake Control, Hill Descent Control, Side-impact Protection, electronic vehicle immobilizer and crash sensor. Dimension wise, the model is 36 mm shorter, 21 mm wider and 53 mm taller than its predecessor taking the new specifications to 4,439 mm, 1,821 mm and 1598 mm respectively.
