Tata Motors Upgrades All Vehicles To Comply With RDE Standards

A statement from Tata Motors said that all of its engine lineup now complies with Bharat Stage 6 Phase-II standards. As a result, all Tata gasoline engines are now RDE (real driving emissions) and E20 (20 percent ethanol and gasoline blend) compliant, while the company’s diesel engines are now RDE compliant. This occurs before the new, tougher emission standards take effect on April 1, 2023.

The Second Phase of the BS6 Engines

Tata has adjusted its engines for improved efficiency, refinement, and driveability in addition to making them RDE and E20 compatible. In addition to being tested in a lab setting on the MIDC, these engines are now being tested for emissions in more demanding real-world conditions (Modified Indian Driving Cycle). These engines will also require some adjustments to the fuel systems, engine calibration, and rubber hoses to accommodate the more corrosive nature of ethanol in order to be E20 compliant. Beginning in April 2023, E20 fuel will be introduced gradually.

Tata thinks there will always be a big market for diesel, thus the 1.5 diesel engine will stay in the Altroz and Nexon. The latter has also undergone improvements to the Revotorq diesel engine to improve performance. Tata didn’t specify whether this upgraded engine produces more power than previously, though. Additionally, it claims that the improvements lessen NVH (noise, vibration, and harshness) levels.

The 2.0 Multijet diesel in the Harrier and Safari, which is sourced by Stellantis, however, is thought to have already attained RDE compliance during its BS6 Phase I update.

New Features For The Punch, Altroz and Nexon

Additionally, the Altroz and Punch now have engine start/stop capabilities, which will help them use less fuel. This will be offered on all models of Tata’s high-end hatchback and small SUV. Tata claims that the two models now have improved low-end driveability and smoother power delivery in lower gears.

The Tiago hatchback and Tigor compact car now come with TPMS, another addition from Tata.

The standard warranty, however, is the biggest improvement to the entire product line. The carmaker used to offer a 2 year/75,000 mile guarantee as standard; today, it offers a 3 year/1 lakh km warranty as standard.
