Nissan To Spawn Its Version Of The Triber MPV

Nissan Motor India has announced its plans to introduce an MPV based on the Renault Triber in the Indian market. The auto manufacturer’s current lineup comprises the Nissan Kicks and the Magnite.

The Kicks SUV never took off to sell in large numbers and even the Magnite’s sales are now showing signs of slowing down. Therefore, in an effort to drive-in more sales, the automaker will be developing a compact 7-seater MPV, based on the CMF-A+ platform.

The Renault Triber is currently one of the most affordable 7-seater vehicles in India and being a sub-4 metre MPV, it enjoys a no-rivalry position, ensuring its steady sales. So, it would be only beneficial for Nissan to jump onto the success of Renault’s compact 7-seater by having its own version.

About The Nissan MPV

This model will be developed by the Renault-Nissan joint venture and the car will be essentially Nissan’s version of the Renault Triber. Just like in the case of the Kiger-Magnite, we expect the Nissan MPV to have some amount of differentiation from the Triber in terms of interior and exterior looks. The MPV could get a new front grille along with re-profiled bumpers and a new design for the wheel covers.

Engines & Powertrains

Although, all the mechanicals and engines would remain untouched. This means that Nissan would be carry-forwarding the Triber’s engine and powertrain options. Currently, the Renault MPV comes with the 1.0L, 3-cylinder, naturally aspirated petrol engine that delivers a claimed power of 71bhp and 96Nm of torque.

The carmaker might introduce the new MPV with a turbocharged version of this petrol engine as well. Both manual and AMT gearboxes are expected to be on offer.

Expected Features

The Nissan MPV’s feature kit is likely to include an 8-inch touchscreen infotainment system with wireless Android Auto and Apple CarPlay connectivity, keyless entry, removable third-row, push-button start, a reclining second-row, roof-mounted AC vents for the middle and third-row passengers, LED lighting, etc.

As of yet, the company has not announced any dates for the launch of this upcoming MPV however it is anticipated that it could come sometime at the end of 2023.
