Maruti Jimny 5-Door Is Here!

The Suzuki Jimny is a very capable off-roader but in the 3-door format, it was impractical even for small families. For capturing the Indian SUV market, Maruti had been thinking of launching the Jimny here for quite some time now.

But in order to make the SUV a hit in this country, practicality and usability play an important role. Hence, the carmaker built the Jimny in a 5-door format with stretched wheelbase all the while retaining its 4WD capability.

This resulted in greater rear-seat legroom and increased boot space while still measuring under 4 meters in overall length. The 5-door Jimny debuted at Maruti’s pavilion at the AutoExpo 2023 and here’s all that is known about the SUV.

Maruti Jimny: Powertrain Options & Specs

Maruti has refrained from giving the Jimny 5-door its updated engine and transmission options and we are not sure why. Due to this, it gets the same engine as its 3-door counterpart – the older 1.5-liter K15B producing 105hp and 134Nm. Although it has mild-hybrid tech, the motor is still less powerful as compared to the updated K15C which makes 115hp.

Even the transmission options offered are either the older 4-speed torque converter automatic or a 5-speed manual gearbox. But the Jimny 5-door does get Suzuki’s AllGrip Pro 4WD system with a manual transfer case and low-range gearbox. The low-range gearbox has three modes, a 2WD high, 4WD high, and 4WD low.

The Jimny 5-door has an approach angle of 36-deg, a breakover angle of 24-deg, and a departure angle of 50-deg. This will make the 5-door version a capable off-road SUV as well because it sits at 210mm off the ground.

Maruti Jimny: Exterior Design

Maruti has made sure that the addition of two doors and the stretched wheelbase do not make the Jimny look any less Jimny-like. The proportions are well suited to the SUV and it looks rather mature and grown-up in the 5-door format.

It sports the same design elements as the 3-door version with only an additional quarter glass to the side profile. The Jimny 5-door gets 15-inch alloy wheels which come wrapped with 195/80 section tyres. There are thick and upright pillars to maintain the vehicle’s butch appeal.

The 5-door Jimny is 3,985mm long with a wheelbase of 2,590mm, while it is 1,645mm wide and 1,720mm high.

Maruti Jimny: Interiors & Features

Even the interiors of the 5-door model remain the same as the 3-door model with the same dashboard layout. The Jimny 5-door gets Maruti’s 9-inch SmartPlay Pro+ infotainment system, wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto, and an Arkamys sound system. The safety features on offer include ABS with EBD, 6 airbags, ESP with hill hold assist, hill descent control, and a rear-view camera.
