2023 Harrier-Safari Bookings Open; Gets ADAS, New Screen

Tata Motors has officially commenced bookings for its updated 2023 Harrier and Safari SUVs in India. Bookings have commenced in all of Tata’s sales outlets across the country against a sum of Rs 30,000.

The updated SUVs are the first Tata cars to come equipped with advanced driver assistance systems (ADAS). This 2023 update will also get some much-needed feature enhancements to the Harrier & Safari over the outgoing models.

2023 Harrier & Safari: ADAS Tech

ADAS Features

As part of the 2023 update, Tata’s Flagship SUV duo will sport ADAS features. Both SUVs will now come equipped with a slew of safety tech. Safety-kit will include forward & rear collision warning, auto-emergency braking, traffic sign recognition, high-beam assist, and lane departure warning.

Other features like blind spot detection, lane change alert, door open alert, and rear cross-traffic alert will also be present. Whereas a 360-degree camera will also be part of the equipment list.

The biggest miss on the updated Harrier-Safari is Adaptive Cruise control which is offered on the rival Mahindra XUV 7OO.

The ADAS tech will be offered in the top-spec XZA+(O) variant, only in the automatic trim, across the regular, Dark, and Red Dark versions of the SUVs.

2023 Harrier & Safari: New Features

The SUV duo does not get any cosmetic or mechanical changes but there are some important additions in the interiors. The SUVs will get an upgraded infotainment system – moving from the current 8.8-inch display to a new 10.25-inch unit.

This screen will also get a new operating system and continue to offer wireless Android Auto and Apple CarPlay connectivity. It will also include iRA-connected vehicle tech. The system will also support 200+ voice commands in 6 languages.

Tata’s flagship SUVs will also get a fully digital 7-inch instrument cluster, unlike the semi-digital unit on the current models. Additionally, the Safari will also be getting ambient lighting on the sides of its panoramic sunroof.

2023 Harrier & Safari: New Red Dark Edition

Tata will also offer the SUVs in a new Red Dark Edition which was showcased at the Auto Expo 2023. The Red Dark Edition will come in Oberon Black shade, red brake calipers, and red inserts for the front grille.

On the inside too, there’s brand new bright red upholstery with quilted seats, leatherette door handles, grey inserts for the dashboard, and black inserts for the steering wheel.

2023 Harrier & Safari: Engine & Gearbox

Mechanically, the Tata Harrier and Safari are unchanged except for the engine which now complies with BS6 phase-II emission norms. The 2.0-litre Fiat-sourced Kryotec turbo-diesel motor churns out 167 bhp and 350 Nm of peak torque. It comes mated to a 6-speed manual gearbox or a 6-speed torque converter automatic gearbox.

2023 Harrier & Safari: Pricing & Rivals

Tata will update the pricing of the SUVs due to the feature additions. The Harrier ADAS and Safari ADAS will be priced higher than the existing non-ADAS variants.

This new set of updates will bring the Harrier & Safari closer to its rivals in terms of features. The Harrier goes against the newly updated MG Hector which now comes with Level 2 ADAS and the Jeep Compass. Whereas the Safari rivals the MG Hector Plus, the Mahindra XUV 7OO, and the Hyundai Alcazar. The new 2024 versions of the Harrier-Safari SUVs are also expected to get launched by the next year.

The updated SUVs are expected to get launched in the market soon.
