Volkswagen Beetle Cabriolet gains Aero Kit and Power upgrades from ABT

ABT Sportsline, the globally largest tuner of cars produced by the Volkswagen Group, has now introduced a comprehensive aftermarket package for the Volkswagen Beetle Cabriolet.

The tweaks to the exterior consist  of a restyled front spoiler, rear panel and rear skirt set while the headlights feature body-colored covers. The alloy wheels from ABT are offered in sizes ranging from 18 to 20 inches and can be matched with custom suspension springs lowering the front by 30mm and the rear by 35mm. Other significant upgrades include a two-pipe rear muffler and a custom braking system which use 345x30mm rotors with black calipers.

“This Beetle is not a “curb crawler”. ABT has made it very racy, also with the brake system with its 345 x 30 mm discs, steel flex lines and black callipers bearing the ABT logo. By contrast with its insect relatives, the ABT has no wings. After all, a too large spoiler kit would not really fit the round and attractive Beetle silhouette. The ABT Aero-Kit is therefore harmonious. It uses a front spoiler, head and tail light covers, rear panel and rear skirt set with a two-pipe exhaust system that make this Beetle different indeed, while still appearing very natural,” says CEO Hans-Jürgen Abt.

Thanks to the tweaks to the powerplant, the 1.2 TSI motor now churns out 140 PS (103 kW) of max power and 220 Nm (162 lb-ft) of peak torque, up from the 105 PS (77 kW) and 175 Nm (129 lb-ft) in the stock form. The 1.4 TSI engine churns out 210 PS (154 kW) and 280 Nm (206 lb-ft) which is a considerable bump in power when compared to the 160 PS (118 kW) and 240 Nm (177 lb-ft) the stock engine manages. The 2.0 TFSI which produces 200 PS & 280 Nm in its stock from produces 240 PS (176 kW) and 340 Nm (251 lb-ft).

On the diesel side, the 1.6 TDI with its 105 PS (77 kW) and 250 Nm (184 lb-ft) can be tweaked to pump out 125 PS (92 kW) and 285 Nm (210 lb-ft). The 2.0 TDI which churns out 140 PS (103 kW) and 320 Nm (236 lb-ft) produces 170 PS (125 kW) and 370 Nm (273 lb-ft).
