As the norms set by government, no BS IV engines will be sold from April 2020,

But as the engines differ and with the new BS VI, will there be any difference in the fuel type too?

if there will be a difference in the grade BS VI and grade BS VI fuel type, as it says the levels of toxic chemicals such as NO2 willl be brought down, how will it affect the existing cars with BS IV engines?

Everyone out there is asking about the impact of introduction of the BS VI engines but I am more concerned about the changes in the engine itself, like in the sense of power, torque, top speed as compared to previous BS 4 engines.

the extent of sulphar is the major difference between Bs6 and Bs 4 norms. BS-4 fuels contain 50 parts per million (ppm) sulphur, the BS6 grade fuel only has 10 ppm sulphur.

After lead, sulfur content is the most important determiner of fuel quality. Sulfur inhibits the proper functioning of aftertreatment systems designed to reduce tailpipe emissions and corrodes engines and pipes. The effect of fuel sulfur content is particularly damaging to three types of aftertreatment systems: diesel particulate filters (DPFs), lean NOx traps (LNTs), and selective catalytic reduction (SCR).

Compared to the BS4, the BS6 fuel has less sulphur and NOx. While the content of sulphur in BS4 fuel is 50ppm, it is five times lower in the BS6 fuel, which is at 10ppm. As for the nitrogen oxide, the permitted level has been reduced by 70% and 25% for diesel and petrol engines, respectively.
