Hi guys, I’m considering to buy a diesel SUV. My budget cap is INR 15 lakhs (ex-showroom). While I had shortlisted the Hyundai Creta diesel and the Renault Duster, the new Tata Hexa looks too good to be true. Which one should I go for?
I am surprised that you didn’t even mention the XUV500. I think that Mahindra’s SUV is the most well rounded option in this segment. But here is my view on the options you have asked about
Renault Duster : Great ride quality, great fuel efficient engine, practical and spacious but doesn’t have seven seats and doesn’t score highly in terms of features and interior quality
Hyundai Creta : Great option for a modern looking urban runabout. There are really no problems with this one, except, maybe it’s slightly more expensive than it should be
Tata Hexa : Seems like great value and has been turned out well by Tata. But under the skin it still has to be the Aria to an extent. It will be heavy. I would wait out before I put my hands on this one
This completely depends upon your travel needs.
If you like to have a stable ride quality or a planted ride (steering feels better), higher ground clearence (205mm) for mild off roading and bigger boot space then Duster is the best option. The only 2 cons are the car is bit old looking (Facelift will be launched by end of 2017) and the feature list inside the cabin is less.
Creta on the other hand is loaded with features, is better looking among the two but the ground clearence is lesser (186mm) and has a relatively dead steering wheel.
This may be a preffered choice for you if you are looking for a new age SUV which u intend to drive more in the city.
Hexa on the other had is more of a MUV. Its highly facelifted version of the Aria (the car was good but flopped due to its indica resembling looks).
The engine is most powerful and advanced with 2.2L GTD turbo generating 400Nm torque and also the vehicle is 7 seater. The steering response is also very good and ride quality is superb.
Disadvantage is that it is very heavy which will give u low milage. But remain assured that the vehicle is build like a tank (solid build feel like HM Ambassador).
Now the choice is yours my friend. Happy driving.
You can also consider the ford ecosport platinum edition or fiat avventura . Though fiat avventura looks like a car it’s 205mm ground clearance would be great and combined with the perfect hydraulic steering it’s a great pseudo SUV . But fords after sales service might be better than fiats . It is better to wait for updated versions of Tata vehicles since they will rectify all the niggles in future facelift . Ecosport is the best choice with space , comfort , handling , safety . Mahindra xuv is not as confidence inspiring as ford ecosport or Tata hexa around corners . Creta is costly but fully loaded with features . Whichever vehicle you buy please go for the top end if possible because in the long run you shouldn’t end up being disappointed with the missing features .
You can also wait for the ecosport facelift or for the Tata nexon which might be launched in the second half of 2017 . Both look promising and feature loaded . If you require an SUV immediately then please consider the above options I have quoted in the previous post .
If you can spend a little over your budget, then we have the amazing Jeep Compass here. Nothing comes close, really! Here’s a quick video we made with the car
The Maruti Suzuki Brezza petrol has its strengths. The engine is better than the power and torque numbers might lead you to believe, and refinement levels are far better than the noisy and clattery diesel’s. And for me it is best option for under 15 lakh.
