I am from Pune, Maharashtra. I used to drive Renault Duster 85 PS RxZ Diesel for last 5 years. Sold off this car since in lockdown the travel was pretty much nil, and Duster aged feature wise.  I also have a Grand i10 Sportz Auto (2018) at home which is driven by my wife. My requirement for new vehicle is that it should be petrol, fun to drive, should have all the creature comforts of a modern vehicle and reliable. Maximum budget for me would be around 20 to 25 lacs

I’ve booked Seltos GTX Plus DCT 1.4 (waiting for delivery in April’21) but given the customer complaints I am seeing on social media platforms for Seltos’s reliability especially windscreen breaks and DCT gearbox failures, I am still searching for the right vehicle. I asked Amit Khare in a Youtube live Q&A about this and he said it’s not an issue and just social media flutter. Seltos GTX Plus DCT 1.4 is costing me 21.6 Lacs on road here in Pune.

I thought of checking out other options in the market. Had ruled out Hector (too heavy for the turbo petrol engine it has) and Creta (didn’t like the new design). Did test drive of Honda Civic. Loved it but Honda announced discontinuation.

So I checked out new Jeep Compass (assuming I can stretch my budget). The variant which is in my budget of is Longitude which omits some features such as rain sensing wipers, auto-dimming IRVMs, button operated tail gate and sunroof. Compass doesn’t have offline navigation in its infotainment but offers wireless Apple CarPlay. Does Compass Longitude really command hefty price of almost 4.17 lacs over Seltos. Seltos has more features vis-a-vis but of course the engine, body rigidity and safety ratings of Compass are miles ahead maybe. Longitude is costing 28.8 lacs on-road in Pune.

Then I also thought of new i20 Asta (O) 1.0 Turbo DCT. It seems to be perfect premium hatch back. I would always rate i20 higher than base variants of let’s say Seltos or Creta. Always prefer over sub-compact SUVs like Magnite, Sonet and Venue. i20 Asta (O) 1.0 Turbo DCT costs 13.62 lacs on-road in Pune.

Please help me with your opinion. Shall I go ahead with Seltos GTX Plus DCT 1.4 or save the money and go for i20 Asta (O) 1.0 Turbo DCT? Or shall I stretch the budget and go for Jeep Compass Longitude?

  • Kia Seltos GTX Plus DCT 1.4
  • Hyundai i20 Asta (O) 1.0 Turbo DCT
  • New Jeep Compass Longtitude (O) 1.4 Petrol DCT

Based on my requirements, I created a comparison with points systems. Please have a look –  Comparison Excel

You have shortlisted i20 as well, which belongs to a different segment. Could you please let us know what exactly are your requirements apart from vehicle is plonked with a petrol engine?
