In May 2016, I set off on an ambitious adventure across India. I rode my motorcycle (a Royal Enfield Thunderbird 500) from the southern coastal city of Chennai (in Tamil Nadu, India) all the way across the country and into the mountains in Ladakh. I rode solo till Mumbai, where I was joined by a fellow motorcycle enthusiast. Together, we rode to New Delhi and then into the mountains of Himachal Pradesh and Kashmir.
After a few weeks spent in the mountains, we rode to Srinagar and then made the ascent into Ladakh. The time thereafter was spent touring the length and breadth of Ladakh, riding through several mountain passes and unbelievable terrain.
We eventually made our way back to Manali and then descended into the plains. At Delhi, we split ways and took different routes to make our respective ways home.
On my way back, I embarked on a mammoth solo journey. Instead of making my way home by cutting straight through central India, I decided to ride off and explore nearly the entire length of Western India. I wasn’t riding to cover distance, but instead used this journey as an opportunity to spend time exploring several places along the way.
Over 3 months rode through all kinds of terrain, all types of weather and through the most diverse and fascinating landscapes. It was a journey filled with new experiences and several challenges. But it also was one that was filled with learning and discovery. To put it very simply, it was a trip unlike any that I’ve ever done before.
I’ve made 2 videos of this journey and they are now up on my YouTube Channel. You can watch these by clicking on the links below:
