The BMW F800GS gets more Adventure-ous

The F800GS, one of the renowned mid-capacity off-roaders from the BMW stable has been knighted upon with the ‘Adventure’ Tag. Though under the skin it’s still the same old BMW F800GS with a 4 valve 798cc parallel twin pumping out 85 bhp of power and 83 nm of torque, BMW has given it several adventure accessories making it a cheaper alternative to those looking for an adventure touring machine and in case one’s dream of owning the behemoth BMW R1200GS shoots over budget.

To start off with, the fuel tank capacity has been raised to accommodate an extra 8 litres to a total of 24 litres as compared to the 16 litres on the F800GS. BMW claims that the bigger fuel tank would increase the range of the BMW F800GS Adventure by 160 kms (100 miles).

Other adventure specific accessories include a revised body design, engine protection guards- though the engine doesn’t protrude out like the boxers on the R1200GS, pannier racks to carry your house if needed and also serving as a tank protection guards, wider enduro footpegs for enhanced seating comfort, hand protectors, a larger touring screen to keep the wind of your chest and head and a taller seating position at 890mm, 10mm more than the regular F800GS.

Optional equipment includes Automatic Stability Control (ASC), Electronic Suspension Adjustment (ESA), Low seat, Centre stand (whaaaat, optional on an adventure bike? Damn!), heated grips, center stand, Enduro package that includes ASC and Enduro mode, LED Fog Lights and an anti-theft alarm system.

We wish similar choices existed for the Indian enthusiasts too..but alas!
