Nano heads to NID

We are yet to be sure about what our take on Nano should be. We won’t call it successful as it failed to meet the expectations of Tata motors and yet, we can’t say that car bombed as it often does fair numbers and has really created quite a stir in the market. Tata motors has come a long way from the days it introduced the Nano. The journey has seen many lows and highs, former more than the latter, right from the political angle involved with production to the fire incidents that were much publicized. The company has been busy upgrading the product and we recently saw the ver 2.0 of the Nano and the news of a diesel powerplant for the compact is doing rounds since quite some time.

Now, one of the most talked about aspect of the car is it’s design. It has met with it’s share of controversies. What with Top Gear’s Jeremy Clarkson mocking at it on national TV. But there are many out there who term the design to be fairly clever. Still, there is a section of potential buyers who are not at all head over heels on the car’s styling.

Tata Motors is known to work on issues that bug the consumer. Indica hatchback is a nice example of this. Seems like, Tata is not too pleased with the feedback on it’s small wonder’s styling. Tata Motors recently announced that they have approved to send a Nano vehicle to one of the premier design institutes of India, National Institute of Design (NID) for the future designers to have a look at the styling quotient of the car and work on giving suggestions on re-designing the compact.

Prof. Pradyumma, the Director of NID said that they (NID) had approached the company due to fluctuating sales and hence the need to redesign the car and Tata motors has agreed to the proposal. The institute also has plans to enter into a tie up with manufacturer and it should be beneficial to both.
