There were apprehensions about the optimistic pricing of the Tata Aria when the crossover was first launched. Unfortunately for Tata Motors, most of them turned out true. The car was not received very well, and the Indian carmaker had to make amends to the model trims and pricing to make it appeal to a vaster audience.

In a bid to bring some zing into the sales of the slow moving crossover, Tata Motors have introduced a discount of Rs 1 lakh during the festive season. The base LX 4×2 variant of the car model, which was priced at Rs 9.95 lakh ex-showroom has now been priced at Rs 8.95 lakh. It’s notable that even before the discount, the Aria was more aggressively priced in comparison with the other contenders in the segment including the XUV 500 and the Innova, yet didn’t sell in good number. A further discount of Rs 1 lakh has widened the pricing gap even more, and may attract customers looking at a value for money package. The introduction of the new Scorpio in the segment, as a new challenge has probably triggered the move on Tata Motor’s part

The Tata Aria is powered by a 2.2 liter turbo diesel engine with 150PS of peak power output and 320Nm of torque. The car is also available with an AWD system and the price goes all the way to Rs 14.7 lakh rupees. The higher variants of the car should also benefit from the price cut. We suggest that prospective buyers in the segment looking at value should give the Aria a look before making a decision.
