It has emerged that Subaru might soon come up with a new three row crossover which would be larger than the Subaru Tribeca. The revelation comes from Subaru’s American director of product management Ken Lin. Lin further added that even though the Tribeca is several years old and “isn’t the most competitive in its segment.”, the company has no plans to discontinue it.

The new crossover will not replace the slow selling model. Instead, the new car will sit above the Tribeca.

Lin also hinted that the carmaker might come up with more premium models. He has been quoted as saying,“ Luxury is certainly one of the opportunities with profit potential.” He added, “We could do touring editions of products but would not be competing with BMW or Mercedes. There is no move to create another brand.”

It has also emerged that the company will launch a hybrid in the second half of 2013. Not much is known about the new car but Lin did reveal that the hybrid will come up with a nickel-metal-hydride battery instead of a lithium-ion battery. He saidd, “I think at least for our first attempt [at a hybrid], we’re keeping it pretty simple.”
